Accounting Manager – Development & Corporate Finance Join a growing, privately held residential real estate developer where finance plays a strategic role in shaping the business's future. This is an opportunity to move beyond traditional financial reporting and become a key contributor across development, corporate finance, partnership accounting, and long-term asset ownership within a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.Your New Employer Our client is a privately owned residential real estate developer focused on acquiring, developing, owning, and operating purpose-built rental communities throughout Southern Ontario.Unlike many developers that build for sale, this organization is committed to long-term ownership. Finance is therefore involved at every stage of the investment lifecycle, from land acquisition and pre-development through construction, stabilization, and ongoing operations. Supporting the development platform is an affiliated property management business that continues to expand alongside the portfolio. Together, the organizations are investing in new communities, strengthening operational infrastructure, and implementing systems that will support the next phase of growth.Despite this growth, the business has maintained the culture of a lean private organization. Decision-making is collaborative, communication is direct, and finance is viewed as a business partner rather than simply a reporting function. Team members have the opportunity to work closely with senior leadership, gain exposure well beyond their job title, and make a visible impact across the organization.Your New Role Reporting to the VP, Accounting, you'll become one of the key members of the finance team, responsible for the accounting and financial reporting across multiple corporate, development, and partnership entities.Rather than specializing in one area of accounting, you'll gain exposure across nearly every aspect of the finance function. Your responsibilities will include leading the monthly and annual close process, preparing financial statements, managing multi-entity accounting, overseeing partnership reporting, supporting treasury activities, payroll, budgeting, forecasting, HST compliance, and executive reporting.A significant portion of the role is focused on development accounting. You'll support projects throughout the entire development lifecycle, including acquisition, pre-development, construction, stabilization, and long-term ownership. This includes monitoring project costs, reviewing capital expenditures, preparing construction loan draws, supporting lender reporting, tracking project cash flows, and partnering with the development team to ensure accurate financial reporting throughout each phase of a project. You'll also oversee accounting for multiple General Partnership and Limited Partnership entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, partnership allocations, intercompany transactions, and consolidated reporting across the broader organization.Beyond technical accounting, you'll review the work of junior team members, provide coaching and guidance, contribute to process improvements, and support the continued implementation and optimization of Yardi Voyager and other financial systems. As the business continues to grow, so too will the scope of this position. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys taking ownership, improving processes, and becoming a trusted advisor within a growing finance team. What Sets You Apart You're someone who enjoys understanding the business behind the numbers. You take ownership of your work, communicate proactively, and have the confidence to identify issues before they become problems. You don't simply prepare financial statements; you understand how financial information supports operational and strategic decision-making. You bring a strong technical accounting foundation combined with experience working within real estate development, or another complex multi-entity environment.Exposure to development accounting, partnership accounting, construction financing, or project accounting will allow you to add value quickly, while your ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet deadlines makes you someone the team can rely on.Equally important, you enjoy collaborating with others. Whether you're working with development managers, operations, lenders, auditors, or executive leadership, you communicate financial information clearly and build strong working relationships across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring a CPA designation (or active progression toward designation), strong Excel skills, and experience with Yardi Voyager or another sophisticated real estate ERP platform. Why Join? This opportunity offers considerably broader exposure than a traditional Accounting Manager position. Instead of being responsible for one piece of the accounting function, you'll participate in virtually every aspect of finance across a growing residential real estate platform. From development accounting and construction financing to partnership reporting, treasury, executive reporting, and systems implementation, you'll gain experience that is difficult to find within larger organizations where responsibilities are often more specialized. You'll work alongside experienced leaders who remain actively involved in the business and value people who are curious, accountable, and eager to grow. The finance team is collaborative, supportive, and committed to continuous improvement, providing an environment where strong performers are trusted with increasing responsibility as the organization continues to expand. For professionals looking to broaden their experience, strengthen their technical skills, and build a long-term career within residential real estate, this represents an exceptional opportunity.Compensation A competitive compensation package is offered, including a base salary in the range of $100,000–$120,000, with flexibility for candidates whose experience closely aligns with the role's requirements. The position also participates in a target annual bonus of approximately 10%.Employees receive comprehensive health and dental benefits, disability and life insurance, an Employee Assistance Program, and four weeks of paid vacation, along with CPA support and ongoing professional development. Most importantly, this opportunity offers meaningful exposure to senior leadership and the ability to grow alongside a business that continues to invest in both its people and its platform.Additional Information This is a full-time, in-office position located in the heart of North York. The successful candidate will report directly to the VP, Accounting and work closely with leaders across finance, development, and property management.
