Accounting Manager

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the Company’s financial transactions and accounting records. This role provides direct supervision and leadership to the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Accounting Administrator functions and plays a key role in coordinating the monthly close process.

The Accounting Manager will oversee transactional accounting activities, establish and maintain effective processes and internal controls, review reconciliations and journal entries, and partner closely with the Controller, Senior Accountant, and other departments to support accurate and timely financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & Team Leadership

•  Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and administrative accounting activities
•  Directly supervise and provide guidance, coaching, and development to the Accounting Administrator and employees supporting AP/AR functions
•  Establish priorities, monitor workloads, and ensure accounting activities are completed accurately and timely
•  Review accounting work for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with company policies and procedures
•  Serve as a resource to the accounting team for questions, problem resolution, and accounting processes
•  Promote a culture of accountability, accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Accounts Payable

•  Oversee the full Accounts Payable process, including invoice processing, coding, approvals, payment processing, and vendor account reconciliations
•  Ensure invoices are properly supported, approved, and recorded in the appropriate accounting period
•  Monitor AP aging and assist with resolution of outstanding vendor balances and discrepancies
•  Review payment activity and support appropriate internal controls over disbursements
•  Maintain accurate vendor records and assist with vendor inquiries and issue resolution

Accounts Receivable

•  Oversee Accounts Receivable activities, including invoicing, cash application, account reconciliations, and collections support
•  Monitor customer balances and aging reports and coordinate resolution of outstanding receivables
•  Ensure receipts are accurately and timely applied to customer accounts
•  Partner with appropriate departments to resolve billing discrepancies and customer account issues
•  Support accurate revenue and receivable reporting

Month-End Close & General Ledger

•  Coordinate and oversee assigned activities within the monthly close process to ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and timely
•  Review journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, and other balance sheet accounts
•  Ensure AP and AR subledgers are reconciled to the general ledger
•  Identify and resolve reconciling items and unusual account activity
•  Support the Senior Accountant and Controller with financial reporting and close-related activities
•  Maintain organized supporting documentation for accounting entries and reconciliations

Financial Reporting & Internal Controls

•  Assist in the preparation of accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting
•  Maintain and strengthen internal controls over accounting processes and financial transactions
•  Ensure accounting activities comply with company policies, accounting standards, and applicable regulatory requirements
•  Assist with audit requests and provide supporting documentation as needed
•  Identify control gaps and recommend improvements to accounting processes

Cross-Functional Collaboration

•  Partner with Operations, Procurement, HR, Legal, and other departments to resolve accounting-related issues
•  Provide accounting guidance and support to internal stakeholders
•  Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as requested
•  Communicate accounting requirements and deadlines clearly to stakeholders across the organization

Process Improvement

•  Evaluate existing accounting processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and controls
•  Lead or participate in accounting system and process improvement initiatives
•  Develop and maintain accounting procedures and process documentation
•  Leverage accounting systems and technology to streamline transactional processes and reporting

Qualifications

Education & Experience

•  Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
•  5–8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience supervising or leading accounting personnel
•  Experience overseeing Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions
•  Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and month-end close processes
•  Experience reviewing account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and other accounting activities
•  Experience with accounting systems and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies
•  Strong understanding of internal controls and accounting policies
•  CPA or other relevant professional certification a plus
•  Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
•  Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and hold team members accountable
•  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•  Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
•  High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and discretion
•  Experience in mining, energy, oil & gas, manufacturing, construction, or other industrial environments a plus
