SUMMARY: Responsible for managing accounting functions and associated processes, procedures, and systems in accordance with Black Oak Casino Resort’s established procedures and controls. 

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: (including, but not limited to, the following)

  • Leads day-to-day operations of the Accounting department, including recurring processes and reporting obligations; drives continuous improvement of department protocols; and ensures a high standard of work.
  • Manages and directs the activities of assigned staff; coordinates, prioritizes, and assigns tasks and projects; tracks and reviews work progress and activities; directs the selection of staff; undertakes disciplinary action as required; conducts performance evaluations; ensures appropriate scheduling to provide proper operational coverage.
  • Performs or coordinates periodic reviews of departmental operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, and other internal control procedures, and recommends corrective actions or process improvements when appropriate. Develops and implements strategies to streamline existing work processes, creates procedures, and improves systems, methods, and techniques.
  • Oversees month-end and year-end accounting processes as they relate to the operational accounting areas and assists with the year-end close of the financial reporting system.
  • Coordinates with the Revenue Audit Department to integrate the flow of audit preparation into accurate accounting posting.
  • Prepares, organizes, and distributes accounting data to authorized parties in the required format.
  • Applies sound professional judgment, strong administrative and organizational skills, and thorough knowledge of all aspects of accounting.
  • Stays current on industry best practices and advancements, tribal gaming regulatory requirements, and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) standards.
  • Identifies training needs to keep staff at the skill level necessary to meet company needs and objectives.
  • Provides professional expertise and information to management to enable timely operational decisions.
  • Oversees the integrity of the general ledger, chart of accounts, and financial reporting structure, ensuring transactions are appropriately classified and recorded in compliance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in financial statement auditing, financial accounting, or similar experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a team lead, supervisory, or people leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience managing internal and external audits.
  • Analytical experience, including experience with Excel.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be able to obtain a valid gaming license.
  • Must possess a high school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Preferred Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a similar field.
  • CPA, CMA, or MBA is a plus.
  • 5 years’ experience in financial statement auditing, financial accounting, or similar experience.
  • 5 years’ experience in a team lead, supervisory, or people leadership role.
  • Experience leading financial close processes.
  • Accounting software change implementation.

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk interspersed with frequent moving about accomplishing tasks or communicating with others.
  • Prolonged exposure to computer monitors to review financial data.

Work Environment:

Most work will be performed in a controlled office environment with acceptable lighting and temperature conditions. At times, you may need to work in a non-smoke-free and noisy environment to assist guests. Additionally, events may take place outside in all weather conditions, and you may be required to work non-standard hours, especially during special events.
