The Accounting Assistant performs a variety of accounting and bookkeeping tasks with accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Retrieves incoming mail from multiple post office boxes daily.
- Sorts, organizes, scans, and enters financial documents and related information into company systems.
- Protects financial information by adhering to established internal accounting controls.
- Verifies the accuracy of payment records in company systems and corrects discrepancies as needed.
- Investigates and resolves missing or incomplete information in payment records.
- Maintains historical financial records by properly filing accounting documents.
- Organizes and maintains files in accordance with established retention requirements.
- Processes daily bank deposits.
- Responds to questions and requests related to payment records.
- Prepares and updates daily and weekly Excel reports for leadership.
- Updates accounting procedures for assigned tasks.
- Suggests ways to improve the accuracy and efficiency of routine assigned tasks.
- Must maintain security and confidentiality of financial information.
- Performs additional accounting and administrative duties as assigned.
Experience and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Associate�s degree in accounting, finance, mathematics, or related field preferred.
- Up to 1 year of accounting or administrative experience preferred but not required.
- Valid driver�s license is preferred if needed to perform assigned duties.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to organize and complete several tasks in a fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to follow instructions, ask questions when needed, and complete assigned work on time.
- Good organization and time-management skills.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
This position requires sitting at a workstation and using a computer for long periods. The work is completed in an air-conditioned office with overhead lighting. The employee uses standard office equipment, including a computer, scanner, printer, and copier.
