The Boston Home is looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Accountant / Finance Office Manager to support our small finance office.
32–40 Hours Per Week

This is an on-site role in Dorchester for someone who has a real accounting foundation, enjoys hands-on work, and wants a stable position with room to grow.
You will help with monthly close, journal entries, reconciliations, cash activity, financial reporting, payroll backup, accounts payable backup, reception backup, filing, and finance office support.
We are especially interested in someone who is comfortable with Excel, accounting systems, data cleanup, and learning tools such as ChatGPT or Claude to improve finance workflows.
Responsibilities:
- Support monthly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Maintain accrual, prepaid, fixed-asset, bank, and other supporting schedules
- Monitor cash balances and assist with banking activity
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, cash receipts, and audit preparation
- Provide backup support for payroll, accounts payable, and reception when needed
- Maintain organized finance office records, files, and documentation
- Assist with Excel work, data cleanup, reporting, and process improvement projects
- Perform related accounting and administrative duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Accounting degree, accounting concentration, ACCA affiliation, CPA exam progress, or comparable general accounting experience required
- Experience with accounting, bookkeeping, reconciliations, journal entries, cash activity, or financial close preferred
- Strong Excel, data, and systems skills, or clear interest and aptitude in developing those skills
- Interest in technology, process improvement, and AI-assisted tools
- Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and follow-through
- Ability to work with staff, residents, families, and visitors in a supportive and upbeat manner
- Willingness to handle both accounting work and routine office duties
