Position Summary<\/b>
<\/p>The Construction Accountant / Accounting & Human Resources Administrator is responsible for managing the day -to -day accounting, payroll, human resources, and administrative functions of a commercial general contracting company.
<\/p>
This role supports project financial management, accounts payable and receivable, invoicing, payroll administration, tax filings, banking activities, and employee records while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
<\/p>
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the financial health of the organization and supporting project teams with job cost tracking, owner invoicing, subcontractor payments, and project financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities<\/b>
<\/p>Project Accounting & Construction Financial Management<\/b>
<\/p>- Process and track project -related financial transactions.
<\/li> - Enter and maintain project budgets, cost codes, commitments, purchase orders, and change orders.
<\/li> - Assist with project cost tracking and job cost reporting.
<\/li> - Support project managers with project financial reporting and forecasting.
<\/li> - Monitor project costs against budgets and identify variances.
<\/li> - Reconcile project expenditures and subcontractor invoices.
<\/li> - Assist with collections and follow -up on outstanding accounts receivable.
<\/li> - Support progress billing, holdback management, and project closeout accounting.
<\/li><\/ul>Accounts Receivable & Invoicing<\/b>
<\/p>- Prepare and submit owner invoices, progress claims, and time and material billings.
<\/li> - Process customer payments and maintain receivable records.
<\/li> - Monitor receivable aging reports and assist with collection efforts.
<\/li> - Ensure compliance with contractual invoicing requirements.
<\/li> - Maintain project billing documentation and records.
<\/li><\/ul>Accounts Payable<\/b>
<\/p>- Review, code, and enter vendor and subcontractor invoices.
<\/li> - Process supplier and subcontractor payments.
<\/li> - Reconcile vendor statements and resolve discrepancies.
<\/li> - Maintain accurate records of commitments and payment schedules.
<\/li> - Support lien holdback and statutory holdback tracking.
<\/li><\/ul>Payroll Administration<\/b>
<\/p>- Process weekly, bi -weekly, or semi -monthly payroll accurately and on schedule.
<\/li> - Verify employee timesheets and payroll submissions.
<\/li> - Maintain employee earnings, deductions, benefits, and vacation records.
<\/li> - Ensure compliance with Alberta Employment Standards and payroll legislation.
<\/li> - Prepare and distribute T4s, Records of Employment (ROEs), and payroll reports.
<\/li> - Remit payroll source deductions and related statutory payments.
<\/li><\/ul>Human Resources Administration<\/b>
<\/p>- Maintain employee files and confidential personnel records.
<\/li> - Assist with onboarding and orientation of new employees.
<\/li> - Coordinate employee benefit programs and enrollments.
<\/li> - Track employee training, certifications, and compliance requirements.
<\/li> - Assist with recruitment activities including posting positions and coordinating interviews.
<\/li> - Support performance review administration and employee documentation.
<\/li> - Maintain HR policies, procedures, and employment records.
<\/li><\/ul>Taxation & Government Reporting<\/b>
<\/p>- Prepare and file GST returns.
<\/li> - Prepare and submit required provincial and federal tax remittances.
<\/li> - Maintain records supporting tax filings and audits.
<\/li> - Assist external accountants with year -end financial statements and tax preparation.
<\/li> - Support compliance with all government reporting requirements.
<\/li><\/ul>Banking & Financial Administration<\/b>
<\/p>- Complete monthly bank reconciliations.
<\/li> - Reconcile credit card accounts and expense reports.
<\/li> - Monitor cash flow and assist with cash management activities.
<\/li> - Process electronic funds transfers (EFTs), wire payments, and bank transactions.
<\/li> - Assist with financing documentation and lender reporting requirements.
<\/li> - Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
<\/li><\/ul>General Accounting Functions<\/b>
<\/p>- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts.
<\/li> - Prepare journal entries and account reconciliations.
<\/li> - Assist with month -end and year -end closing processes.
<\/li> - Generate financial reports and supporting schedules.
<\/li> - Maintain accounting records in accordance with company policies and accounting standards.
<\/li> - Support audits and financial reviews.
<\/li> - Provide administrative support to management as required.

Requirements<\/h3>
Qualifications<\/b>
<\/p>Education<\/b>
<\/p>- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
<\/li> - Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation is considered an asset.
<\/li> - Accounting designation (CPA or CPA candidate) is considered an asset.
<\/li><\/ul>Experience<\/b>
<\/p>- 3–7 years of accounting experience, preferably in commercial construction or project -based industries.
<\/li> - Experience with payroll processing and human resources administration.
<\/li> - Experience with project accounting and job costing.
<\/li> - Experience preparing GST returns and government remittances.
<\/li> - Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations.
<\/li><\/ul>Technical Skills<\/b>
<\/p>- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
<\/li> - Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks Online, Sage, Viewpoint, or similar systems.
<\/li> - Experience with construction management software such as Procore is considered an asset.
<\/li> - Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast -paced construction environment.
<\/li> - Strong organizational and record -keeping skills.
