We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for US-based corporate tax professionals with deep expertise in Federal Corporate Tax, technical tax research, legal authority review, and preparation of complex tax analyses.
This short-term role focuses on reviewing and improving AI-generated corporate tax research materials. Selected professionals will validate technical conclusions, assess cited authorities, refine grading rubrics, and revise reference answers to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with current US federal tax law.
Key Responsibilities
Federal Corporate Tax Research Review
- Review approximately 120 existing US corporate tax research questions
- Evaluate draft reference answers for legal, technical, and analytical accuracy
- Identify incomplete reasoning, unsupported conclusions, and incorrect applications of tax law
- Confirm that analyses reflect current federal corporate tax principles and professional research standards
Legal Authority & Source Validation
- Assess the authority, relevance, and reliability of cited tax sources
- Review references to the Internal Revenue Code, Treasury Regulations, IRS guidance, case law, and secondary authorities
- Verify that conclusions follow the appropriate hierarchy of tax authority
- Identify missing, outdated, or incorrectly interpreted legal sources
Reference Answer & Rubric Development
- Rewrite reference answers when improvements are required
- Review grading rubrics for completeness, consistency, clarity, and technical accuracy
- Define the essential elements required for a high-quality response
- Improve scoring criteria for complex, multi-step tax research questions
- Ensure rubrics distinguish between minor omissions and material technical errors
Current-Law & Effective-Date Review
- Verify effective dates, transitional rules, and legislative changes
- Assess whether answers reflect current statutes, regulations, and administrative guidance
- Identify analyses affected by recent legislative or regulatory developments
- Update materials where evolving tax law changes the applicable treatment or conclusion
Ideal Profile
Strong candidates may have:
- At least 5 years of professional US tax experience
- Deep expertise in US Federal Corporate Tax
- Experience as a Tax Manager, Tax Counsel, corporate tax advisor, or senior tax professional
- Strong understanding of tax research methodology and the hierarchy of legal authority
- Experience preparing technical tax memoranda, workpapers, tax opinions, or IRS forms
- Ability to review complex tax analyses with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail
- Excellent written communication and the ability to explain technical conclusions clearly
- Availability to contribute at least 10 hours per week during the engagement
Educational Background
- CPA or JD qualification is highly relevant
- An LLM in Taxation is especially valuable
- A degree in accounting, taxation, law, finance, or a related discipline may be considered
- Equivalent senior-level corporate tax experience may also be accepted
- Professional experience within a major accounting firm, law firm, corporate tax department, or tax advisory practice is particularly relevant
Nice to Have
- Experience with US Partnership Tax
- Knowledge of State and Local Tax matters
- Familiarity with transfer-pricing rules under IRC Section 482
- Experience reviewing complex, multi-step corporate tax analyses
- Background in tax controversy, transaction tax, restructuring, or international corporate tax
- Experience applying recent legislative and regulatory developments
- Familiarity with structured evaluation rubrics, reference-answer development, or AI-generated tax research review
