Trust Accountant

What you will do:
The Trust Accountant is responsible for the accurate recording and reporting transactions across multiple trust bank accounts. Operating under the direction of the Trust Accounting Supervisor, this role ensures compliance with state regulatory requirements and performs daily analyses of trust account balances within appropriate deadlines. In addition, this role will provide backup support to other accountants in the department and will assist on special projects as assigned.
How you will make an impact:
- Trust Account Maintenance:
- Maintain and ensure accurate and complete accounting of multiple trust account transactions in accordance with state regulatory requirements.
- Identify and research trust account discrepancies and resolve outstanding items promptly. o Ensure compliance with escheatment laws and proper handling of trust accounts.
- Transaction Management:
- Review and process daily cash movement requests, including remittances, wire transfers, checks and other disbursements.
- Record escrow-related transactions and activities across multiple platforms, working closely with state brokers, agents, company employees, and banks.
- Reconciliations and Reporting:
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy and integrity of records.
- Assist in creating trust reports and performing financial analyses.
- Process Improvement:
- Assist in the development and implementation of new processes, policies, or procedures to enhance controls and the accounting environment.
- Partner with Accounting, Operations, and Legal teams to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley and other regulatory requirements.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Liaise with internal accounting and finance teams to ensure trust account activity is accurately recorded in the company’s financial records.
- Attend weekly state and team meetings to stay aligned with ongoing trust-related activities and requirements.
- Special Projects:
- Work on Treasury Operations projects and other assignments as directed by management.
- Provide backup support to other accountants in the department as needed.
- Other Duties:
- Maintain database integrity and ensure accurate recordkeeping.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by management.
How you will grab our attention:
- Associate’s degree or higher in Business, Finance, or Accounting, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in finance or accounting.
- Proven experience with bank reconciliations.
- 1+ years of experience in the Real Estate industry (preferred).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external teams.
- Highly organized and proactive, capable of managing work independently to meet deadlines and commitments.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and precision.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications (intermediate level).
- Knowledge of SkySlope transaction management software a plus.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and work efficiently under minimal supervision.
