We are seeking an experienced Tax Supervisor to join our Financial Services team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for reviewing tax returns and overseeing the preparation and coordination of tax compliance and advisory services for clients in the financial services industry, including hedge funds, fund of funds, private equity funds, management companies, and high-net-worth individuals.
This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, excellent analytical and organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple engagements while supporting client service initiatives and mentoring staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Interact closely with clients to provide advanced tax planning, consulting and compliance expertise.
- Prepare complex tax returns and review returns prepared by Tax Associates and Tax Seniors.
- Oversee and supervise all tax reporting and compliance with federal, state, local, and international tax laws.
- Analyze and review financial data to identify tax savings and minimization opportunities.
- Conduct research on tax laws and regulations, keeping abreast of changes and developments.
- Provide guidance and support to tax staff and assist in their professional development.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with partners, clients, and industry professionals.
- Actively participate in professional organizations, industry events, and networking groups to enhance the firm’s visibility and reputation.
- Set clear goals and expectations for the tax team, providing regular feedback and performance evaluations.
- Participate in relevant training programs, seminars, and workshops to enhance tax knowledge and skills.
Qualifications
- Must be able to work in the New York City office a minimum of three days per week. Monday and Wednesday are required in-office days to support team meetings, training and mentoring, and collaboration. The third in-office day may be flexible based on business needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required.
- MST degree a plus.
- Active CPA license, EA certification, or progress toward certification preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive financial services tax experience required.
- Experience working with asset management clients – e.g., hedge funds, fund of funds, private equity funds, management companies and high-net-worth individuals required.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, local, and international tax laws and regulations.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lead and mentor the tax team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; experience with tax software (e.g., CCH Tax, Engagement, or similar) preferred.
Compensation & Benefits:
The compensation for this position ranges from $95,000 - $115,000. Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills, and certifications.
