Overview
As a member of the General Dynamics Marine Segment Tax Team, based at Electric Boat Corporation in Groton, Connecticut, the Tax Specialist, Sr. will partner with key business counterparts and other members of the General Dynamics corporate tax department to understand business facts and analyze/advise on the tax effects of business activity. The Tax Specialist, Sr. will be responsible for execution of various tax planning, tax provision, and tax compliance work streams relating to General Dynamics Marine Segment business units, including:
- US federal, state, and local income tax projections and compliance
- State and local indirect tax analysis and compliance
- Supporting General Dynamics corporate headquarters Tax department on IRS and state income tax audit inquiries
- Close coordination and frequent collaboration with other General Dynamics Tax personnel on various company tax matters
- Close coordination and frequent collaboration with Marine Segment business unit personnel in Finance, Legal, Human Resources, and Operations to track and advise on tax effects of proposed and existing business activity and ensure proper reporting of the tax effects of business decisions
- Identification and implementation of continuous improvements to Tax department processes
- Participation in technology and financial reporting projects (such as ERP systems updates) to establish reliable and efficient tax processes
- Monitor tax law changes and evaluate their impact to the Company on a timely basis and implement compliance as needed
- Occasional travel to other General Dynamics locations
- Position requires the ability to work extended hours and weekends as needed
Qualifications
Required:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in accounting, tax, or finance
- Minimum of five (5) years relevant corporate tax experience
Preferred:
- CPA certification, IRS Enrolled Agent license, or law degree
- Advanced degree in Taxation
- Accounting firm, law firm, or corporate tax department experience
Skills
- Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills essential
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues at various levels of the organization
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with Tax/Accounting/Research software packages such as Corptax Tax & Provision Systems (a plus), Thomson Reuters RIA Checkpoint, Bloomberg BNA Tax, etc.
- Familiarity with ASC 740 and Sarbanes-Oxley preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office and advanced Excel skills are a plus as well as the capability and willingness to learn relevant business systems
- Experience with Alteryx and / or Power BI are a plus
- Willingness & ability to travel occasionally
