Tax Process & Efficiency Coordinator
The Tax Accounting Process & Efficiency Coordinator is a key member of the Southern Company Services (SCS) Corporate Tax team, reporting to the Income Tax Accounting Managers. This role focuses on identifying process constraints, improving consistency across operating companies, driving alignment across tax accounting, forecasting, and tax compliance activities, and partnering with IT and Strategic Transformation to implement solutions that enhance efficiency across the Tax Department. The ideal candidate brings strong tax accounting knowledge, advanced Excel skills, experience with databases and automation tools, initiative, and the ability to communicate effectively with leadership and other stakeholders.
Income Tax Accounting Process Efficiencies
- Drive improvements across tax accounting, tax compliance, and related workflows by identifying inconsistencies, recommending standardized approaches, improving handoffs, and enhancing coordination among operating companies and key stakeholders.
- Perform detailed tax analytics, account reconciliations, and variance analyses to identify trends, risks, and process gaps.
- Identify, develop, and implement technology solutions that improve reporting, automate recurring processes, strengthen data quality, and enhance tax department workflows.
- Use advanced Excel skills to develop, enhance, and maintain tax accounting workpapers, models, and analysis tools.
- Develop and implement automation solutions, including Excel macros, RPA, database-driven processes, and AI-enabled business process improvements, to increase efficiency and consistency.
- Collaborate effectively with tax and non-tax stakeholders, escalate issues as needed, and communicate findings and recommendations to Tax Accounting Managers and Tax leadership.
Income Tax Forecasting Process Improvement
- Improve income tax forecasting processes by enhancing methodologies, documentation, and consistency across operating companies.
- Perform forecasting analytics, variance analysis, and trend reviews to identify key drivers, risks, and process gaps.
- Develop and enhance forecasting workpapers, models, and supporting data using advanced Excel and other practical technology tools.
- Coordinate with tax and non-tax stakeholders to resolve forecasting issues and communicate key matters in a timely manner.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Must have a minimum of 4 years of experience as a tax professional in a corporate setting
- Minimum of 1 year recent professional experience in accounting for income taxes required.
- Experience preparing and/or reviewing income tax provision workpapers and applying current and deferred tax concepts preferred.
- Experience with account reconciliations, variance analysis, tax analytics, and support for quarterly and annual reporting cycles preferred.
- Experience with accounting systems and technology tools such as Oracle (ERP/accounting system), PowerPlan Tax Provision (utility tax accounting software), Utilities International (UI) (forecasting software), advanced Excel, Corptax (tax return software), or similar database solutions required; experience with Excel macros, RPA, automation tools, or AI-enabled business process tools is a plus.
- Public accounting and/or large corporate experience preferred.

- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality work.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present findings, recommendations, and technical matters clearly to management.
- Working knowledge of technology concepts and IT terminology, with the ability to assess solution options and communicate business requirements effectively to both tax and IT stakeholders.
