Our client is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to oversee all aspects of the company's tax compliance, planning, and reporting. This individual will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate tax filings, managing relationships with external tax advisors, identifying tax-saving opportunities, and providing strategic guidance on federal, state, and local tax matters. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong technical tax expertise, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to partner cross-functionally across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
- Manage all federal, state, and local income, sales/use, property, and other tax filings.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of all tax returns and related documentation.
- Review tax provisions and deferred tax calculations in accordance with GAAP.
- Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess the impact on the organization.
- Coordinate and manage tax audits, notices, and inquiries from taxing authorities.
Tax Planning & Strategy
- Identify tax planning opportunities to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring compliance.
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic tax initiatives and business decisions.
- Assist with tax implications related to acquisitions, restructures, and capital investments.
- Evaluate and implement tax credits and incentive programs where applicable.
Financial Reporting
- Prepare quarterly and annual tax provisions.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes related to tax accounting.
- Reconcile tax-related general ledger accounts.
- Collaborate with accounting and finance teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Supervise and mentor tax and accounting staff as applicable.
- Manage relationships with external CPA firms and tax consultants.
- Develop and improve tax processes, internal controls, and documentation.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting related to income taxes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA required or strongly preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting and/or corporate tax.
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax laws.
- Experience with tax research, planning, and compliance.
- Proficiency with ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Manufacturing, agriculture, distribution, or multi-entity environment.
- Experience working with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Multi-state tax experience.
- Familiarity with tax provision software and ERP systems.
