The Role:
We are seeking a Tax Manager to be based in the company's Puerto Rico office. We are entrepreneurial, fast-moving, and motivated by a desire to change the way that energy and electricity are delivered around the world. The position will be responsible for managing all tax functions of the company’s Puerto Rico operations, including tax planning and structuring, tax compliance, tax accounting and provision, transfer pricing, and tax controversy matters.
The successful candidate will operate as a key member of the tax organization, partnering closely with business leaders, finance and accounting teams, and external advisors to optimize tax outcomes while ensuring compliance with applicable Puerto Rico tax requirements.
Responsibilities
What You Will Do:
- Lead all aspects of the company’s Puerto Rico tax function, serving as the primary in-house tax advisor for the company’s Puerto Rico operations.
- Develop and implement tax planning and structuring strategies that support business growth while optimizing the company’s overall tax position.
- Oversee all Puerto Rico tax compliance activities, ensuring timely, accurate and complete filings across all applicable taxes.
- Manage the quarterly and annual income tax provision process for the company’s Puerto Rico operations.
- Lead transfer pricing matters related to the company’s Puerto Rico operations, including intercompany pricing, documentation and compliance.
- Advise business, finance, legal and accounting teams on the tax implications of transactions, operational initiatives, and strategic projects.
- Monitor changes in Puerto Rico tax legislation and regulations, assess business impacts, and implement appropriate planning strategies.
- Manage relationships with external tax advisors, auditors, and Puerto Rico tax authorities, including supporting audits and resolving tax controversies.
- Partner with the global tax organization to ensure Puerto Rico tax strategies are aligned with the company’s overall tax objectives and reporting requirements.
Qualifications
What You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Financing or Taxation. CPA, Master’s in Taxation, or JD preferred.
- 7-10 years of relatable experience at big four accounting firms and/or multinational public company environments.
- Deep technical knowledge of Puerto Rico corporate income tax, indirect taxes, withholding taxes, and Puerto Rico tax incentive regimes.
- Experience with tax planning, legal entity structuring, and advising on complex business transactions.
- Solid understanding of income tax accounting, including current and deferred tax provisions and financial statement reporting.
- Experience managing transfer pricing matters, including intercompany transactions, documentation, and collaboration with global tax teams.
- Familiarity with U.S. federal income tax rules impacting Puerto Rico operations, including international tax considerations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, drive projects to completion, and deliver high-quality work in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to translate complex tax concepts into practical business recommendations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – ability to communicate clearly and precisely, and to command the respect of business colleagues.
- Quantitative skills (e.g., ability to create and/or review Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint slides).
