POSITION OVERVIEW
The Tax Manager will lead client engagements, manage complex tax work, review returns, and serve as a trusted advisor to clients. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys both technical tax work and meaningful client interaction, and who thrives in a smaller firm environment where they can make a direct impact.
You will oversee staff, manage workflow during busy season, and ensure high-quality, timely deliverables. This is a hands-on role with room for growth and autonomy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Tax Compliance & Review
Prepare and review complex individual, corporate, partnership, and other tax returns.
Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Identify tax-saving opportunities and provide proactive planning recommendations.
CLIENT RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT
Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients.
Build strong, long-term relationships through responsiveness, clear communication, and technical expertise.
Provide year-round advisory support, including tax planning, projections, and strategic guidance.
ENGAGEMENT MANAGEMENT
Manage multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.
Oversee workflow, delegate tasks, and monitor progress of staff.
Review staff work and provide coaching, feedback, and development support.
TECHNICAL EXPERTISE
Stay current on tax law changes and communicate relevant updates to clients and internal teams.
Research complex tax issues.
Assist with IRS and state tax notices, and correspondence.
FIRM SUPPORT AND LEADERSHIP
Contribute to process improvements and workflow efficiencies.
Participate in internal meetings, planning sessions, and firm initiatives.
Support a positive, collaborative, and professional team environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
CPA license required.
5+ years of public accounting tax experience, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or manager role.
Strong technical knowledge of individual and business taxation.
Excellent communication and client-service skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
Experience in a small-firm or mid-size firm environment preferred.
