We are currently seeking a detailed oriented, organized, analytical individual with excellent communication and customer service skills to join our Accounting & Finance team as Tax Manager.
This position reports to the Tax Director and is responsible for managing the overall tax compliance function for the Sullivan Family of Companies, SFOC.
The Tax Manager oversees the company’s tax compliance function, including preparation and filing of federal and state tax returns, tax provisions, and related payments. This role partners with the Tax Director and external consultants on tax planning, research, audits, and regulatory compliance while supporting financial teams with tax-related analysis. Requires strong knowledge of tax regulations, 5+ years of experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Job Duties:
- Primary responsibilities include the preparation of federal and state income tax returns and supporting workpapers and schedules, general excise tax returns, estimated and extension tax payments, shareholder distributions and withholdings, and the income tax provision.
- Coordinate the tax compliance, tax research and tax planning efforts with the assistance of the tax director and outside tax consultants.
- Consistently monitor developments in tax laws and assess impact on the organization to ensure proper compliance and to identify and assist in implementation of tax strategies.
- Assist in the analysis and communication of the tax implications related to business transactions to senior level accounting and finance teams.
- Respond to tax notices and coordinate IRS and state audits.
- Collaborate with and assist accounting and finance teams on special projects, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned may include review of commercial leases to ensure proper compliance with lease requirements.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to multi-task and effectively prioritize changing demands in a fast-paced, challenging environment with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
- Solid understanding of income tax regulations.
- Must be able to perform independent tax research.
Education/Experience:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited university.
- CPA certification, preferred.
- Minimum 5 years tax experience in public or private accounting.
- Must be experienced in C-corporations, S-corporations, and partnerships.
- Experience in retail and real estate industries preferred.
