The Tax Director, Americas is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and executing the tax strategy for Air Products' operations across North and South America. Serving as a trusted advisor to business, finance, treasury, legal, and M&A leaders, this position plays a critical role in enabling growth, supporting strategic investments and transactions, optimizing business outcomes, and managing tax risk across the region.
The role focuses on tax planning and includes oversight of controversy management, compliance, and governance activities while ensuring alignment with Air Products' business objectives and commitment to operational excellence. Operating in a complex environment that includes large-scale capital projects, acquisitions, restructurings, and commercial transactions, the Tax Director drives value creation while maintaining the highest standards of compliance and stewardship.
Dimensions
The Americas region includes operations in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, and Ecuador.
Supports large-scale capital investment projects, commercial transactions, acquisitions, and restructuring initiatives across the region.
Leads a team of approximately 5-10 tax professionals.
Principal Accountabilities
Provide strategic tax leadership and business support by serving as the primary tax advisor to business, finance, treasury, legal, and M&A leaders in the Americas.
Develop and implement tax-efficient structures for capital projects, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, financings, restructurings, and other strategic initiatives.
Identify, evaluate, and execute tax planning opportunities that enhance shareholder value while maintaining compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Lead and develop a high-performing tax organization by fostering employee engagement, talent development, succession planning, and continuous improvement.
Advise project teams and review, negotiate, and draft tax provisions in commercial agreements, contracts, acquisition documents, and financing arrangements.
Anticipate and assess legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments and recommend proactive responses to emerging risks and opportunities.
Partner with external advisors and local experts to advise on foreign tax matters.
Provide management and governance oversight of tax controversies and audits.
Ensure tax planning initiatives and significant transactions are appropriately reflected in tax returns, tax provisions, and related financial disclosures.
Minimum Requirements and Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD), CPA, Master’s in Taxation, or equivalent advanced tax qualification
Minimum 12 years of progressively responsible tax experience in a multinational corporation, Big Four accounting firm, major law firm, or combination thereof
Deep knowledge of U.S. federal income tax, U.S. international tax, and cross-border tax planning principles
Demonstrated success advising senior business leaders on complex transactions and strategic initiatives
Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and project management skills
Proven ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and highly matrixed global organization
Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and drive decision-making in a complex global organization.
Preferred Qualifications
Significant in-house tax leadership experience with a multinational corporation
Experience supporting large capital-intensive projects
Knowledge of foreign tax regimes and experience managing tax matters across multiple jurisdictions
Experience managing tax controversies and interacting with tax authorities in the United States and foreign jurisdictions
Proven track record of managing tax professionals, talent development and organizational leadership
This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with three days per week at our Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania headquarters and two days remote. Relocation assistance is available.
