Trueline is seeking a Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy to join its Staten Island, New York team, for a growing multi-office tax and accounting firm serving individuals and small businesses,. This hands-on leader will guide tax strategy, manage and develop staff, and help clients turn accurate financials into smarter business decisions. The position offers a clear path to Director for someone ready to build structure, expand advisory services, and support the firm's national growth plans.
What You'll Do as the Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy:
- Lead day-to-day tax operations while serving as a trusted resource for tax preparers, bookkeepers, and support staff
- Review financial statements, P&Ls, and bookkeeping records to identify tax-saving opportunities and provide proactive recommendations
- Prepare and review tax returns while knowing when to delegate work across the team
- Meet directly with individuals and business owners to explain tax strategies in clear, practical language
- Manage a fast-moving client appointment schedule during tax season, including scheduled and walk-in meetings
- Mentor staff, strengthen technical knowledge, and create clear standards for quality, accountability, and client service
- Guide bookkeepers on changes needed to improve reporting, compliance, and tax readiness
- Review QuickBooks files, identify bookkeeping issues, and connect financial activity to broader tax and business strategy
- Identify additional services that could benefit clients, including bookkeeping, planning, and advisory support
- Help build the structure, processes, and team needed to support continued growth across multiple offices
- Travel to other office locations as needed
Must-Haves as the Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy:
- Strong tax preparation and review experience at the Tax Manager, Tax Supervisor, or advanced Senior Tax Accountant level
- Experience advising individuals and small business owners on proactive tax strategies
- Ability to review a P&L and other financial reports, recognize planning opportunities, and communicate recommendations to clients
- Working knowledge of GAAP and sound accounting practices
- Strong QuickBooks knowledge, including the ability to review and troubleshoot client books
- Experience managing, mentoring, and developing tax or accounting professionals
- Confidence delegating work while remaining willing to handle complex or time-sensitive assignments personally
- Strong client-facing communication skills and the ability to manage difficult or high-pressure conversations
- A direct, honest, and transparent working style, including the confidence to raise concerns and respectfully challenge decisions
- Ability to work from the Staten Island office and visit other locations when needed
Nice-to-Haves as the Tax Consulting Manager - Client Advisory & Strategy:
- CPA license
- QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification
- Experience leading teams across multiple offices
- Background in client accounting services, bookkeeping oversight, or outsourced CFO advisory
- Experience managing a high-volume tax preparation environment
- Business development, cross-selling, or client relationship expansion experience
This Role Offers:
- Base salary of $110,000-$135,000
- Total earning potential up to approximately $150,000 through performance-based bonus compensation
- Opportunity to advance to Director within approximately one to two years
