What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. New hires are typically brought into the organization between $63,679-$96,000.

Location & Schedule

The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least three days a week, and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days. Additional in-person coverage may be needed to support the needs of the business.

About the Department of Finance

The Department of Finance manages the city’s investing, fiscal analysis, budgeting, debt and asset management, tax assessment and collection, and accounting functions as well as establishing, maintaining and enforcing fiscal policies, practices and procedures for the entire City and County of Denver. The Department commits to Denver residents the delivery of these services through a financial structure that mirrors the best practices of both the public and private sectors. This commitment promotes better service, enhanced performance measures, maximum accountability and improved business processes.

About the Treasury Division

The Treasury Division collects, records, and deposits all City taxes and revenues, and disburses money as required by law. The Treasury Division's other responsibilities include enforcement of tax compliance; and administration of the City's property tax programs. The mission of the Treasury Division of the Department of Finance is to promote and facilitate voluntary compliance, strive to ensure fairness, and collect tax revenue that funds city services. By carrying out this mission in a professional, efficient, and customer-oriented manner, we maximize the financial resources available to meet the needs of the community and its citizens.

In this Tax Compliance Supervisor role, you will provide leadership by supervising Tax Compliance Agents /Specialists and Tax Technicians / Specialist who are engaged in collecting delinquent taxes, providing taxpayer information, education and assistance, and enforcing compliance of city ordinances and state laws.

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Develops or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures, determines work priorities, and develops work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage. Provides work instruction, assists employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments, and encourages innovation. Assigns and distributes work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion
• Conducts hiring interviews and selects candidate(s) for job opening(s)
• Resolves problems encountered during daily operations, determines appropriate solutions, and promotes teamwork. Encourages regular communication and informs staff of relevant business issues and their impact on the organization
• Develops goals, documents performance, provides performance feedback and formally evaluates the work of the employee; provides reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Assists staff to achieve performance standards and identifies opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards
• Recommends improved tax collecting strategies/techniques and assists in the revisions of applicable ordinances and regulations
• Addresses problems, answers questions, and responds to time-sensitive inquiries from the public, city officials, and other city agencies
• Attends meeting to coordinate work with other agencies and/or departments and resolve problems specifically related to the supervised function
• Performs other related duties and special projects, as assigned or requested

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
• Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of experience collecting taxes in compliance with applicable tax laws.
• Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.
• License/Certifications: Requires Driver's License at the time of application.
• Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
