Position Summary
Works under the general Supervision of an assigned Supervisor to be responsible for tax collections by administering Tax Freeze, Tax Relief, Quarterly Pay, and Wheel Tax Rebates (Senior Programs). Position also includes general Customer Service assistance.
Pay Grade: 46
Salary Commensurate with Experience and Education
Minimum Qualifications
- Four (4) years of experience in telephone or in-person collection of tax revenues and/or customer service, including, but not limited to, tax collections or similar experiences, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities; and
- Graduated from an accredited high school, or possess a GED;
- PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING, OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Administers State and County authorized Senior Programs for qualified senior citizens
- Assist taxpayers, mortgage companies, county offices, and other entities over the phone or in person with tax-related problem resolution.
- Utilize customized workflows, Access, and/or Excel spreadsheets to process and track all applications for Senior Programs
- Research property ownership using online skip trace software applications to confirm the ownership and mailing address of tax bills returned in the mail.
- Serve as telephone backup for other departments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
KSAs
- General knowledge and use of computers.
- Working knowledge of software packages, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Ability to research and update tax records in multiple systems
- Ability to use online research tools such as CLEAR, MLGW, websites for the Shelby County Assessor of Property, Register, and County Court Clerk.
- Ability to navigate proprietary and customized software solutions such as Tyler Munis, PolicyServ, and Debt Manager
- Ability to convey tax information to the public with tact, understanding, and courtesy
- Ability to prioritize workflow and comply with internal policies and procedures to accurately process Senior Program applications.
Special Requirements
- Must have reliable transportation.
- May be required to work overtime during tax season.
