JOB SUMMARY:

The City of Birmingham is seeking a well-qualified Tax Collection Manager. This role performs work that involves the planning, organizing, and directing the collection of various revenue sources (e.g., ad valorem tax, property tax, condemnation revenue) for the City. Employees in this position maintain relationships with financial institutions (i.e., banks) to protect assets, administer a departmental budget, and oversee the distribution of collected funds to various agencies (e.g., State of Alabama, Jefferson County, Board of Education). Tax Collection Managers are upper-level supervisors with a large number of subordinates (e.g., Redemption Coordinators, Land Specialists, Sr. Land Specialists, Tax Agents) and are responsible for assigning and distributing work, monitoring work progress, providing feedback, and creating/revising departmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time, but may involve occasional walking or standing for brief periods. May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc.
