Help Clients Understand Their Business
At Haga Kommer, great tax professionals do more than prepare returns. They help individuals and business owners understand their tax situation, make informed decisions, and feel comfortable asking questions.
We’re looking for an experienced Tax Accountant to join our Elk River team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys individual and business tax work, can manage client engagements independently, and communicates complicated tax and accounting concepts in clear, practical language.
A CPA designation is not required. Enrolled Agents are welcome, and candidates with 5–10 years of relevant experience are preferred.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
-Prepare individual and business federal and state tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, and 1120S, with exposure to 1120 and 1041 returns based on experience.
-Review client records, financial statements, and supporting tax documents for accuracy and completeness.
-Prepare supporting workpapers, identify missing information, and coordinate follow-up with clients.
-Assist clients with tax planning, projections, estimated payments, and extensions.
-Manage multiple client engagements and deadlines while maintaining accurate, timely work.
-Explain tax and accounting matters in practical terms and build relationships through responsive service.
-Research tax questions and stay current on changes affecting client engagements.
-Collaborate with the Elk River team and support less-experienced colleagues as appropriate.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
-Preferably 5–7 years of relevant tax and accounting experience.
-Recent public accounting or CPA-firm tax experience strongly preferred.
-Strong experience preparing individual and business tax returns.
-Ability to manage assigned work independently and recognize when an issue needs additional review.
-Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial statements, and tax workpapers.
-Experience working directly with individuals and business owners.
-Clear, approachable communication and strong attention to detail.
-Ability to organize competing priorities and work collaboratively through tax-season deadlines.
-Comfort using professional tax software and learning new technology.
