Description of Work

This position leads the preparation of the annual financial statements including all note disclosures for the SRPs for audit by an external auditor. The position monitors and reconciles the investment management fees and other fees accrued at the custodian by the SRPs. The position prepares instruction letters to the custodian to facilitate the payment of these fees. This accountant position assists in the preparation of the NC Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. In addition, this accountant will work through special projects related to the SRPs as the solutions involves both divisions. This position will also work with the annual and monthly operating budget of the SRPs to ensure that all Board changes are made and there is sufficient funds to satisfy payments for operations. This position has extensive interaction with the Retirement Division staff (RSD), the external auditor, the custodian and record keeper for the Supplemental Plans, and the Office of the State Controller (OSC).

About us:

The Financial Operations Division of the NC Department of State Treasurer is responsible for the efficient and prudent management of state held assets. The Division is comprised of four areas: Procurement and Contracting, Banking Operations, Bank Reconciliation Unit, and Accounting. The Accounting section is under the supervision of the Departmental Accounting Manager to ensure compliance and consistency around departmental accounting functions. Departmental Accounting manages Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, month end close and certifications, Fixed asset reporting, P-card, and some annual Tax reporting.

The Department of State Treasurer's campus is located on Atlantic Avenue, is surrounded by many shopping centers and restaurants, has access to a 24-hour 7-day a week free gym on the campus, and has free employee parking.

Minimum Education and Experience

The minimum Education and Experience is a bachelor’s degree in accounting, or a degree in business administration, finance or public administration or a related discipline from an appropriately accredited institution with 18 semester hours of accounting coursework; and five years of professional accounting/auditing experience in the preparation of interpretive or analytical accounting/ financial statements and reports or equivalent combination of education and experience.
