Real Estate Accounting Supervisor

Employment Type: Full Time Exempt

Location Onsite – Norfolk, Virginia Corporate Office

JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for the accounting functions related to various real estate portfolio including multi-family and commercial properties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein.  Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by Harbor Group Management Company.

Review monthly accrual property financial statement packages including all relevant workpapers and bank reconciliations Ensure fixed asset transactions (acquisitions, capitalization, dispositions, transfers and depreciation) are properly recorded in the fixed asset system Reconcile mortgage and escrow balances Prepare and post monthly journal entries to the general ledger Reconcile monthly bank statements Maintain supporting schedules for general ledger balances Assist in preparing internal month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting Record activity for purchases, sales, and refinances Ensure mortgages are set up for new acquisitions and tracked for monthly payments Ensure portfolio-level mortgages are allocated accordingly and paid timely Set up new MRI entities and bank accounts Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent discipline CPA is highly preferred 3-6 years relevant work experience. Public accounting experience preferred. Real estate background desired but not required Previous staff management experience Working knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and/or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), a plus Strong organizational and communication skills and attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work well under pressure Ability to balance time during busy annual reporting/ tax season Experience with Yardi and MRI a plus
