Position Summary:
The Staff Tax Accountant will be responsible for supporting the company's indirect and direct tax compliance. Including sales and use tax, property taxes, corporate income tax and other state and local tax obligations.
Required Experience for Staff Tax Accountant:
- Bachelor�s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 2-5 years of experience in corporate tax, sales and use tax, or general tax accounting.
- Knowledge of multi-state sales and use tax regulations and compliance requirements.
- Experience preparing and filing indirect tax returns across multiple jurisdictions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting or ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with indirect tax software such as Avalara, Vertex, or Sovos preferred.
- Experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms preferred.
- Familiarity with tax automation initiatives and process improvement projects preferred.
Responsibilities for Staff Tax Accountant:
- Prepare, review, and file monthly, quarterly, and annual sales and use tax returns for multiple state and local jurisdictions.
- Ensure timely and accurate compliance with indirect tax filing and payment requirements.
- Review transactions to verify the proper application of sales and use tax rules, including product and service taxability.
- Assist with tax registrations and ongoing nexus compliance.
- Research and interpret changes in indirect tax laws and regulations, communicating impacts to management and business partners.
- Support state and local tax audits by gathering documentation, preparing schedules, and responding to auditor requests.
- Assist in gathering, organizing, and reconciling work papers to support book-to-tax differences for corporate income tax returns.
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve tax-related issues and improve compliance processes.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, strengthen internal controls, and enhance tax reporting efficiency.
- Maintain accurate tax records and documentation in accordance with company policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
General Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others, sit, stand, walk and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Some travel may be required.
