Staff Accountant
Scottsdale, AZ (Onsite)
The staff accountant will be responsible for accrual based accounting procedures including monthly invoicing, revenue recognition, fixed asset tracking, amortization and tracking of expenses, close procedures, journal entries and reporting. The staff accountant will communicate internally with the accounting team, payroll, sales and management, and be responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the financial statements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Core Accounting & Financial Operations
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and payroll-related entries
- Own and maintain general ledger accuracy across multiple entities
- Perform and complete monthly balance sheet and bank reconciliations
- Support AP/AR processes as needed, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Assist in maintaining intercompany transactions and reconciliations
- Ensure proper documentation and support for all accounting entries
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Execute key components of the month-end and year-end close process
- Prepare close schedules and ensure deadlines are met
- Identify and resolve discrepancies proactively
- Support the Manager in reviewing financials and explaining variances
- Continuously improve the close process for efficiency and accuracy
Financial Reporting Support
- Prepare monthly financial reports and supporting schedules
- Assist in variance analysis and trend identification
- Support preparation of financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
- Provide data and insights to support budgeting and forecasting activities
Audit & Compliance
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation for external audits
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
- Maintain organized and audit-ready financial documentation
- Assist with regulatory reporting and compliance requirements
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify inefficiencies in accounting workflows and recommend improvements
- Assist in automation initiatives and system enhancements
- Help develop and maintain SOPs for accounting processes
- Support implementation of scalable processes for company growth
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with HR on payroll entries, benefits accruals, and related reconciliations
- Collaborate with operations and leadership to ensure accurate financial data flow
- Serve as a resource for accounting-related questions across departments
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting (or equivalent experience)
- 1-2 years of industry experience
- Strong analytical skills with accounting software
- Excel proficiency,
- Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment.
