Role:
The Staff Accountant performs accounting support functions, to include but not limited to, accounts payable and receivables; shared branching, gift card, ATM, debit card, and credit card settlements and prepares the reconciliations for these items; coordinates records retention; provides information and performs research for employees, vendors, and third-party processors; and performs miscellaneous general ledger entries and reconciliations of Soarion Credit Union.
What you will be doing:
- Performs heavy general ledger work, cost and branch accounting, completes or verifies general ledger reconciliations and completes tasks in all functional areas of the Accounting Department.
- Utilizes discretion and independent judgment in interpreting policies and procedures to resolve daily operational problems, reports outstanding issues to the Accounting Manager and/or Vice President/Chief Financial Officer.
- Compiles and analyzes daily financial information to prepare and post entries to the general ledger accounts.
- Prepares closing entries, generates reports and provides extensive assistance with the preparation of month-end, quarter-end and year-end financial statements.
- Prepares assigned month-end management and board reports that are accurate, include clear written communication and completed by established deadlines.
- Occasionally reviews, verifies and approves release of all vendor payments.
- Assists with the coordination of fund management of credit union financial accounts to include monitoring corporate accounts and daily cash flows needs.
- Assists with all aspects of managing credit union investments to include monitoring maturities, interest payments, cash flows and investment maturity ladders.
- Responsible for the preparation of the quarterly regulatory reports and annual tax filings.
- Maintains and balances mortgage portfolio. Produces monthly reports.
- In coordination with the Vice President/Chief Financial Officer and Accounting Manager, assists in planning, compiling, and developing the credit union’s annual budget.
- Assists the Accounting Manager with the coordination and preparation of materials for all audits and regulatory exams.
- Ensures compliance with the policies and procedures of the credit union and all applicable federal laws and regulations set forth by the National Credit Union Administration and other regulatory agencies.
- Provides back-up to all other positions, as needed.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
What you'll bring along:
- Must have a Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or equivalency in work experience.
- Must have at least three (3) to five (5) years experience in Accounting.
- Financial institution accounting experience is preferred.
