Our client is a well-established hospitality and real estate organization seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join its corporate accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment while supporting multiple hotel properties and contributing to accurate financial reporting.
The ideal candidate will have strong general ledger experience, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience within the hospitality industry and familiarity with M3 accounting software is highly preferred.
Position Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial records while supporting the monthly close process, financial reporting, reconciliations, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role partners closely with the accounting and finance teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting across multiple hotel properties.
Responsibilities:
- Perform month-end close activities for assigned hotel properties
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and prepaid expenses
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
- Review financial statements and general ledger activity for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and ensure timely bank deposits
- Monitor cash flow, banking activity, and other financial transactions
- Assist with tax payment processing and year-end tax preparation schedules
- Support the preparation of monthly financial statements and financial reporting for executive leadership
- Prepare accounting schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for audits and compliance requirements
- Assist with monthly intercompany and property rebill processes
- Maintain reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation using Microsoft Excel
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and balance sheet variances
- Assist with special projects and other accounting responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, accruals, prepaid expenses, and account reconciliations
- Experience with M3 Accounting Software is strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Hospitality or hotel accounting experience preferred
- Multi-property accounting experience preferred
- Experience supporting month-end and year-end close processes preferred
- Experience preparing audit schedules and financial reporting packages preferred
