SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Staff Accountant/Senior Accountant will play a key role in overseeing capital asset accounting for a portfolio of hotels. The role will ensure capital asset activity is recorded accurately, timely, and in compliance with GAAP, SOX requirements, and Host's internal policies.
In addition, the Staff Accountant/Senior Accountant will partner with property teams, Capital Financial Services, IT, to improve processes and leverage technology. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Validate Capex Spend submissions from properties by confirming proper coding and ensuring transactions are posted correctly to Host’s ledger.
- Analyze Work-in-Progress and Due To/From Manager for Owner-Funded Capex account balances, preparing and recording adjustments as needed.
- Complete quarterly FF&E escrow reconciliations, identify and communicate variances to properties, and partner with property teams to resolve discrepancies in compliance with SOX guidelines.
- Collaborate with Capital Financial Services and IT to maintain alignment between Workday and Champion (capital tracking platform) for capital project cost reporting and work jointly to resolve inconsistencies.
- Process asset dispositions, including recording of proceeds and performing asset retirements in Workday.
- Participate in Workday release testing for assigned reports and processes to ensure system updates operate as intended.
- Prepare assigned monthly and quarterly reports and reconciliations.
- Support internal and external audit requests related to capital expenditures and asset accounting.
- Assist with additional assignments and special projects as directed.
- Demonstrate and promote Host’s EPIC values in daily work and interactions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- BS/BA in Accounting/Finance from accredited university/college
- Two to four years of progressive experience in accounting
- Previous experience in real estate, hotel industry preferred
- CPA or progress toward CPA certification preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent technical accounting skills with strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong Excel skills and proficiency with MS Office
- Familiarity with Workday or any other major automated accounting system
- Ability to build effective partnerships across departments and communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders
