Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing all accounting operations for a growing logistics and transportation company with multiple locations. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, maintains strong internal controls, manages month-end and year-end close processes, and provides financial analysis to support strategic business decisions. The ideal candidate will have extensive accounting experience, strong knowledge of QuickBooks, and a proven track record managing financial activities across multiple sites.
Staff Accountant Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Develop and maintain accurate Profit & Loss (P&L) statements for individual locations and consolidated company operations.
- Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Monitor financial performance and identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and company policies.
- Daily bank reconciliation/bank feed categorization
- Monthly/yearly journal entries and other financials close responsibilities (accruals, prepaids, depreciation, amortization)
- Accounting email monitoring (emergency payments, approvals, etc.)
- Monthly/yearly P&L review
- Monthly Balance Sheet review
- General account monitoring/maintenance
- Accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial transactions.
- Coordinate audits and work with external accountants, auditors, and tax professionals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an Accounting Manager or similar accounting leadership role.
- Strong proficiency with QuickBooks.
- Experience preparing and analyzing P&L statements.
- Experience managing accounting functions for multiple locations or business units.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
AA or BA in Finance and/ or 3 years equivalent work experience.
