ABOUT THE ROLE
As Staff Accountant, you will support the day-to-day financial operations of Molecular You, a precision health company at the intersection of molecular biology, data science, and personalized medicine. You will work closely with the Assistant Controller and cross-functional teams, contributing to core accounting functions while gaining hands-on experience with ERP systems and R&D financial reporting.
This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate to build foundational accounting skills in a technology-forward, research-oriented environment.
Reports to: Assistant Controller Hours: 32 hours per week (min 30 hrs required) Duration: Minimum 6 months, maximum 12 months
RESPONSIBILITIES
Core Accounting Functions
- Accounts Payable (AP): Manage the full AP cycle, including data entry, payment processing in NetSuite, and vendor communication
- Accounts Receivable (AR) and Revenue Recognition: Collaborate with the operations team to invoice customers, ensuring accurate tracking of COGS and invoicing procedures
- Payroll Processing: Process payroll and journal entries and reconcile benefit payments in compliance with Canadian employment and tax requirements using QuickBooks Payroll and BambooHR
- Expense Management: Manage employee expense reimbursements within AP payment runs and oversee company credit card transactions including validation, coding, and reconciliation
- Banking and Payments: Prepare and upload electronic AP batch payments (ACH and EFT) for approval and initiate cash transfers to the operating account
- Reconciliations and Month-End Close: Perform bank and credit card reconciliations and support monthly financial close procedures in NetSuite
- Year-End and Audit Support: Compile documentation and support year-end financial reviews and audits
- Accounting Inbox: Manage the accounting inbox, responding to basic inquiries and escalating complex issues to the Controller or relevant team members
Innovation and Technology Contributions
- Support financial system data entry consistency in NetSuite (ERP technology adoption)
- Contribute to grant reimbursement tracking and compliance processes
- Support financial data preparation for R&D and innovation-related expenditures
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
- Minimum 1 year of experience in an accounting department (co-op, internship, or part-time experience qualifies)
- Proficiency or demonstrated learning in NetSuite ERP (AP, AR, Revenue, Reporting)
- Experience with QuickBooks Payroll and BambooHR, or comparable payroll and HRIS platforms
- Knowledge of Canadian payroll and tax regulations (GST/HST/PST, payroll, T4/T4A)
- Experience with bank reconciliations and supporting financial close processes
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
- Experience with Expensify or other automated expense reporting systems
- Familiarity with BMO online banking and electronic payment platforms
- Exposure to subsidiary accounting or multi-entity environments
PLACEMENT DETAILS
- Duration: Minimum 6 months, maximum 12 months
- Hours: Minimum 32 hours per week
- Compensation: Salary $4,000.00-$5,000.00 monthly depending on experience
- Employment Type: Fixed-term placement

This position is funded through the National Research Council of Canada's Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC IRAP) Youth Employment Program (YEP), a Government of Canada initiative delivered under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS).
To qualify for grant funding, the successful candidate must meet the following eligibility criteria at the start of the placement. These criteria are conditions of the Government of Canada grant program and are not requirements imposed by Molecular You Corporation.
Eligible candidates must:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the placement
- Be a post-secondary graduate (university, college, CEGEP, or polytechnic diploma or degree)
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or person granted refugee status in Canada
- Be legally entitled to work in British Columbia under applicable provincial legislation and regulations
- Be a first-time participant in a YESS work experience program targeted at post-secondary graduates
