Position Summary
MetroEHS Pediatric Therapy is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our growing Finance team. This role is ideal for an accounting professional who wants to develop beyond traditional accounting responsibilities and gain meaningful exposure to payroll administration, operational analytics, financial reporting, and strategic growth initiatives.
Working directly with the CFO, the Staff Accountant will play an important role in supporting the financial operations of a multi-state pediatric therapy organization. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn the business from both an accounting and operational perspective while contributing to an organization dedicated to improving the lives of children and families.
The ideal candidate is organized, analytical, personable, and comfortable working with accounting systems, spreadsheets, and emerging automation and AI tools to streamline financial processes and support a growing healthcare organization.
Essential Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Operations
- Assist with daily accounting activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance.
- Support month-end close processes and preparation of monthly financial statements and reports.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for CFO review and analysis.
- Maintain accurate financial records and assist with financial reporting activities.
- Support accounts payable, cash management, and other accounting functions as assigned.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and operational efficiency.
Payroll & Employee Support
- Assist with payroll processing through Paychex or similar payroll/HRIS systems.
- Serve as a resource for therapists and staff regarding payroll-related questions and concerns.
- Research and resolve payroll discrepancies in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain payroll documentation and assist with reporting requirements.
Operational Analytics & Productivity Reporting
- Assist with therapist productivity tracking and reporting.
- Prepare analyses related to therapist productivity standards and bonus calculations.
- Support operational leaders by providing accurate and timely performance metrics.
- Maintain reporting tools and spreadsheets that support business decision-making.
- Analyze trends and provide insights that support operational performance.
Cross-Department Collaboration
- Work closely with Accounting, Billing, HR, and Operations teams to support organizational goals.
- Collaborate with the Billing Department to ensure accurate financial reporting and operational alignment.
- Assist with audits, compliance activities, and special projects as needed.
Growth & Acquisition Support
- Assist with gathering and organizing financial information related to practice acquisitions and expansion opportunities.
- Participate in financial due diligence projects as the company continues to grow.
- Support integration activities for newly acquired locations.
AI-Enabled & Technology Responsibilities
- Use AI-assisted accounting and productivity tools to improve accuracy, speed, and consistency in routine financial tasks.
- Leverage AI tools to identify transaction anomalies, unusual account fluctuations, duplicate entries, or coding inconsistencies for review.
- Assist with automating repetitive accounting workflows such as reconciliations, invoice matching, expense categorization, and report generation.
- Use AI-enabled reporting tools to summarize financial results, highlight trends, and support management decision-making.
- Partner with finance leadership to evaluate and improve accounting processes through automation and intelligent workflow design.
- Validate AI-generated outputs for accuracy, reasonableness, and compliance before final submission or posting.
- Maintain data confidentiality and apply sound professional judgment when using AI tools in accounting processes.
- Support adoption of new financial systems, dashboards, and AI-enhanced ERP/accounting platforms.
- Help document procedures for the responsible and compliant use of AI in accounting operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 0-5 years of accounting experience.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
Preferred
- Experience with NetSuite or other ERP systems.
- Experience with Paychex, ADP, Paylocity, or similar payroll platforms.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems.
- Healthcare or multi-location business experience.
- Experience working with data analysis and reporting.
- Experience using automation tools, workflow systems, or AI-enabled finance platforms.
