Position Summary
MCM Engineering II is seeking a Staff Accountant to support core accounting functions and serve as a key link between day-to-day transactional work and higher-level financial oversight. This role works closely with the Financial Controller and provides guidance and support to Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable to ensure accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in financial operations.
This position is ideal for someone who understands the full accounting cycle, can work independently, and is comfortable stepping in to troubleshoot issues and keep processes running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review general ledger entries and ensure accuracy of financial data
- Perform and oversee account reconciliations, identifying and resolving discrepancies
- Support and participate in month-end and year-end close processes
- Assist in preparation of financial statements and internal reports
- Review work from Accounts Payable for accuracy and proper coding (without owning AP functions directly)
- Act as a point of support for AP and AR questions and issue resolution
- Communicate with corporate office regarding financial reporting, account balances, and required documentation
- Ensure consistency between local records and corporate reporting requirements
- Assist in maintaining internal controls and improving accounting processes
- Support audit preparation and respond to auditor requests as needed
- Collaborate with project managers on job cost tracking and financial data accuracy
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2–4 years of accounting experience (internship + real experience counts)
- Solid understanding of general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned areas
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel
- Strong communication skills, especially when working across departments and with corporate
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in engineering, construction, or project-based accounting
- Familiarity with job costing
- Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks or similar)
- Experience supporting or reviewing AP processes
