McGuireWoods has an opportunity for a self-starting, detail oriented individual to join its Accounting team as a Staff Accountant in Richmond, VA. The candidate most closely-aligned with the role has experience with trial balance accounts and other general ledger accounts, creating/entering journal entries, and demonstrates proficiency with Excel.

Responsibilities
- Perform monthly account reconciliations for moderately complex accounts.
- Analyze general ledger fluctuations and research discrepancies.
- Play a major role in monthly close processes including the preparation of journal entries and related audit trail support.
- Track the compilation of project costs into fixed asset accounts.
- Utilize fixed asset software to calculate depreciation for all fixed assets.
- Review, update and reconcile the detailed schedule of fixed assets and accumulated depreciation using the fixed asset database and prepare accompanying journal entries.
- Communicate with cross-functional teams regarding the retirement and disposal of fixed assets, remove fixed assets and accumulated depreciation from the balance sheet and calculate any applicable gains/losses.
- Prepare audit schedules relating to fixed assets and depreciation for auditors and assist in their inquiries.
- Support the manager on special projects and lead less complex projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Preferred degree in accounting and one to two years of experience.
- Functional knowledge of Excel.
- Ability to work independently (with minimal supervision) to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong planning, organizational, detail-oriented and problem solving skills.
- Interest in using innovative AI technology, including Harvey and Copilot, to support efficient high-impact work.
