- Maintain the general ledger and perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts, bank statements, and intercompany transactions
- Assist in the preparation of monthly financial statements and management reports
- Track and analyze job costs by community, lot, and phase, ensuring accurate cost-to-complete reporting
- Monitor construction draws, subcontractor billings, and purchase order commitments against budget
- Investigate and resolve cost variances between budgeted and actual costs
- Maintain work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and inventory valuations for homes under construction
- Record land acquisitions, development costs, and lot transfers
- Allocate common area costs to individual lots in accordance with company methodology
- Maintain land held-for-sale and land under development schedules
- Review and process subcontractor invoices, ensuring proper lien releases and compliance with contract terms
- Coordinate with field operations and purchasing teams to resolve billing discrepancies
- Ensure timely and accurate payment of trade partners and vendors
- Process home closings in coordination with the escrow/title team
- Record revenue, cost of sales, and warranty reserves upon closing
- Reconcile closing proceeds and buyer deposits
- Support external audit and tax preparation by providing schedules, documentation, and analysis
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations
- Assist with preparation of sales and use tax returns where applicable
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 2+ years of accounting experience; homebuilding, real estate, or construction industry experience
- Solid understanding of GAAP, job costing, and inventory accounting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
- Experience with Newstar (our primary ERP system); proficiency strongly preferred
- Familiarity with lien waiver management and construction draw processes
- Experience with lot-based revenue recognition
