Job Purpose: We are seeking a detail-oriented and adaptable Staff Accountant to support our Accounting/Finance team. This role will focus on day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger support, transaction review, and maintaining financial accuracy, while also assisting with payroll review and tax/compliance activities.
This position is ideal for someone with a strong accounting foundation who enjoys working across functions and is comfortable supporting multiple areas of the business. The role may also flex to support the merchant accounting team based on business needs.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day accounting operations, including transaction review and general ledger accuracy
- Assist with journal entries, account analysis, and maintaining proper GL coding
- Review financial data to identify discrepancies and ensure accuracy
- Partner with Accounting/Finance on account setup, GL mapping, and process improvements
- Assist with audit support by preparing documentation and responding to requests
- Identify opportunities to improve processes and enhance efficiency
- Review payroll for accuracy, including bonuses, commissions, and residuals
- Serve as a backup for payroll processing as needed
- Partner with internal teams and third-party provider (Paycor) to validate payroll data and resolve discrepancies
- Assist with payroll-related audits and maintain supporting documentation
- Assist with sales tax, property tax, and other regulatory filings
- Support maintenance of state tax accounts and compliance requirements
- Help manage business license renewals and Secretary of State filings
- Track and document tax payments in coordination with internal teams and external partners
- Provide support to the merchant accounting team as needed
- Collaborate across departments to ensure data accuracy and operational efficiency
- Assist with ad hoc projects and analysis as business needs evolve
Experience & Requirements
- 2+ years of accounting experience in a staff or similar role
- Strong understanding of general ledger and day-to-day accounting operations
- Exposure to payroll processes and/or tax compliance is a plus
- Experience with accounting or ERP systems (NetSuite preferred)
- Familiarity with payroll systems (Paycor preferred) is a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required
