Compensation: $115,000 – $165,000 annually, plus bonus opportunity
About the Opportunity
A well-established law firm in Midtown Manhattan is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support firm leadership with financial reporting, billing management, and financial analysis. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in the firm's financial operations while working closely with attorneys, administrative staff, and management.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting

Prepare and analyze financial statements, including profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and general ledger reports

Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

Reconcile operating and trust/escrow accounts

Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation

Monitor financial performance and support budgeting activities
Billing & Revenue Management

Oversee billing operations and ensure timely invoice processing

Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions

Review billing data for accuracy and completeness

Support attorneys and staff with timekeeping and billing procedures

Track collections and client payment activity
Business Support & Analysis

Provide financial reporting and analysis to support business decisions

Coordinate compensation, bonus, and billing data with management and payroll providers

Monitor cash flow and financial metrics

Assist with operational and business growth initiatives
QualificationsRequired
-
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

Minimum 5 years of accounting experience within a law firm environment

Strong proficiency with QuickBooks

Experience using legal practice management and billing software

Working knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Experience with Clio Manage

Knowledge of legal billing processes and trust/escrow accounting

Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff
