About the Opportunity

A well-established law firm in Midtown Manhattan is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and support firm leadership with financial reporting, billing management, and financial analysis. This position offers the opportunity to play a key role in the firm's financial operations while working closely with attorneys, administrative staff, and management.

Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Accounting & Reporting

• Prepare and analyze financial statements, including profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and general ledger reports

• Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes

• Reconcile operating and trust/escrow accounts

• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation

• Monitor financial performance and support budgeting activities

Billing & Revenue Management

• Oversee billing operations and ensure timely invoice processing

• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions

• Review billing data for accuracy and completeness

• Support attorneys and staff with timekeeping and billing procedures

• Track collections and client payment activity

Business Support & Analysis

• Provide financial reporting and analysis to support business decisions

• Coordinate compensation, bonus, and billing data with management and payroll providers

• Monitor cash flow and financial metrics

• Assist with operational and business growth initiatives

QualificationsRequired

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• Minimum 5 years of accounting experience within a law firm environment

• Strong proficiency with QuickBooks

• Experience using legal practice management and billing software

• Working knowledge of GAAP and accounting best practices

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines

Preferred

• Experience with Clio Manage

• Knowledge of legal billing processes and trust/escrow accounting

• Prior experience supervising or mentoring staff

• Payroll administration experience
