JOB DESCRIPTION: The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and maintaining accurate financial records, executing assigned month-end close responsibilities, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal controls. This role is responsible for preparing journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with month-end and year-end close processes, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own assigned balance sheet accounts, including preparation, reconciliation, and variance analysis.
- Prepare and post monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals.
- Review GL accounts and prepare journal entries.
- Prepare financial reports and support schedules.
- Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable functions as needed.
- Ensure compliance with accounting principles, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist with internal and external audits by providing requested documentation and schedules.
- Initiate banking transactions as part of the cash management functions.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and variances.
- Maintain accurate and organized financial records.
- Identify and implement improvements to accounting workflows, including automation opportunities and control enhancements.
- Perform thoughtful budget variance analysis.
- Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations.
- Execute assigned close responsibilities within defined monthly close timelines.
- Support directors with month-end and year- end closing activities.
- Other general accounting activities as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and two years’ related experience required.
- Experience with general ledger accounting and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet frequent deadlines while working in a fast-paced team environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of GAAP and internal control practices
