Position Summary
The Staff Accountant I will play a key role in the daily financial operations of our young and expanding organization. This person will be responsible for supporting the general accounting duties, revenue and billing workflows related to medical services, and supporting monthly close processes.
Key Responsibilities
General Accounting and Financial Operations
- Assist in month end and year end close activities.
- Assist with maintaining accurate financial records in compliance with GAAP.
Billing and Revenue Cycle Support
- Support billing workflows for mobile wound care services, including claims submission assistance and payment posting.
- Reconcile accounts receivable and monitor claim status and denials.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to resolve billing discrepancies.
Payroll
- Conduct quarterly or annual audits to verify that employee data, pay rates, and tax withholdings match approved HR records.
- Reconcile payroll bank account.
Payables and Vendor Management
- Process vendor invoices and maintain accounts payable schedules.
- Help implement scalable AP workflows suitable for a growing startup.
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements, dashboards, and internal reports.
- Maintain documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and audit trails.
- Support budgeting and forecasting activities as needed.
Qualifications
- Required
- Bachelor degree in accounting or bachelor degree in another business area with 15 college course hours in accounting.
- 1 year of accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and standard accounting processes.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online preferred) and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to excel in a startup environment with evolving processes.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. The role requires regular use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse for data entry, reconciliations, and report preparation.
- Ability to lift up to 10 to15 pounds occasionally. May involve moving files, office supplies, or small equipment.
- Ability to remain focused and maintain attention to detail for extended periods. Necessary for reviewing financial data, preparing journal entries, and processing billing items.
- Adequate vision and hearing (with or without accommodation). Needed to read financial statements, review digital documents, and participate in virtual or in person meetings.
- Ability to communicate clearly in person, over video, phone, and email. The role requires coordination with clinical, administrative, and finance teams.
- Ability to bend, reach, and organize file storage as needed. Occasional filing, scanning, or retrieving documents may be required.
- Ability to work in a standard office environment or remote office setting. Includes maintaining a workspace suitable for confidential financial and medical related information.
