Overview

We are seeking a Staff Accountant who is proactive, analytical, and wants to be part of a strong team. The individual in this role will own many of the closing and reconciling processes related to the development of the Hampton Lumber Sales (HLS) financials. This person must develop a detailed understanding of the underlying business transactions and records, including accounting for business activity in multiple currencies. This position requires interaction with various members of the HLS team, including sales, support, and other accounting staff. A successful person in this role will help the accounting team maintain a high degree of confidence in the accuracy of information used in business decision-making, financial reporting, and compensation records.

Responsibilities

Detailed responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

•Perform recurring account reconciliations, journal entries and other financial accounting tasks to maintain accurate accounting records and manage appropriate cash flows
•Calculate sales commissions and other compensation-related items accurately and confidentially
•Provide reports to key individuals on a recurring basis to assist in ongoing decision-making and management review of the HLS business
•Reconcile accruals for HLS rebate programs with expected payments, and provide analysis of shortfalls and overages
•Research underlying transactions and assumptions to ensure accurate financial reporting and allocation between business units
•Assist in the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts for HLS, and other businesses as required
•Develop an in-depth knowledge of Hampton’s ERP systems (LumberTrack, Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains) to provide accounting and business process support
•Build a functional understanding of the financial and operational impacts of all types of recurring transactions and how they interact with related reporting, such as the general ledger, financial statements, and commissions
•Management may modify, add, or reallocate job

Qualifications

Skills and Abilities:

•Attention to detail with high degree of accuracy and efficiency
•Assertive and responsible, while exemplifying the highest levels of ethics, honesty, and integrity
•Strong competency in Microsoft Office suite applications, particularly Microsoft Excel functionality such as lookup functions, pivot tables, advanced formulas, and macros
•Competency in Microsoft Power BI or other business intelligence tools a plus
•Be able to perform accounting functions independently
•Ability to travel according to company requirements

Education and Training Requirements:

•Bachelor’s degree in accounting and three years accounting experience required
•Experience in monthly close processes, from preparing journal entries to publishing financials preferred
•Experience in multi-currency accounting a plus
•Experience in accounting within the lumber manufacturing or wholesaling industry a plus
•Experience using Epicor LumberTrack and/or Microsoft Dynamics a plus
