Job Summary: The Staff Accountant works under the direction of the Controller to reconcile general ledger accounts, perform month-end procedures, ensure accurate account balances, and assist with internal and external audits. Ensuring accurate balances not only involves reconciling accounts and questioning items that don’t look right, but also working with the controller to ensure the root cause creating any discrepancy is corrected.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Verify and reconcile accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank accounts, and other general ledger accounts.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Summarize financial information accurately.
- Assist in creating internal financial reports for management team.
- Provide insights for cost control measures.
- Prepare sales tax returns.
- Assist Controller in preparing for external audits.
- Question transactions or items that look unusual or suspicious.
- Level II Requirements: Independently reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies with minimal supervision or revision.
- Level II Requirements: Conduct financial analysis of balance sheet and income statement accounts and provide insightful interpretation of account contents rather than simply replicating known information.
- Level II Requirements: Assist Controller with information requests from external parties such as Sales Tax Audits, 401(k) Audits, Year-End Audits, and similar processes.
- Level III Requirements: Possess in-depth knowledge of K&M's policies and procedures, with the capability to lead the update and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Level III Requirements: Collaborate with other departments to identify and correct root cause of anything creating financial discrepancies.
- Level III Requirements: Assist Controller in building internal controls throughout the accounting process.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.

Job Requirements:
Strong understanding of accounting principles, spreadsheets, and bookkeeping. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Awareness of current business trends. Experience with general ledger functions and month-end/year-end closing processes. Effective written and oral communication skills. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Vlookups and pivot tables. Attention to detail and accuracy in work. Strong numerical and quantitative skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team. Willingness to ask questions and challenge norms.
Accountant I Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or 2 years relevant experience
Accountant II Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to perform all Accountant II tasks independently with minimal supervision; plus Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or 3-5+ years’ experience
Accountant III Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to perform all Accountant III tasks independently with minimal supervision; plus Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field or 5 -7+ years experience Actively participate in Leadership Development
