Job Description:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing comprehensive financial and administrative support to ensure the accurate and timely processing of payments, receivables, and financial transactions. This position performs pre-audits of invoices and travel reimbursement vouchers and other financial documents to verify compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and accounting requirements prior to payment.

Other key responsibilities include processing and tracking accounts receivables (including but not limited to payments received by cash, checks, credit cards and wires) and accounts payables entries in the MaineDOT and State’s Accounting Systems. They will also be responsible for processing and updating customers, vendors, and employees’ information in the State’s Accounting Systems. The incumbent ensures the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of financial records while maintaining compliance with State policies, accounting standards, and internal controls.

Education, training, and/or experience in accounting, business administration, financial planning, budgeting, or another related field demonstrating competency in analyzing data and records, interpreting policies, rules, and laws, identifying process and procedure deficiencies, and developing practical solutions.
