Archer Mechanical is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to join our growing team.
Archer Mechanical specializes in sustainable mechanical and plumbing systems, providing design-build, design-assist, new construction, additions, remodels, retrofits, service, and preventative maintenance.
The organization has been established since 1987 and has continued to grow rapidly over the past 36 years. Archer Mechanical produces a higher-value product cost-effectively and efficiently using progressive construction planning technologies, advanced construction materials, and manufacturing methods, reducing safety risks, schedule durations, and congestion on the job site while enhancing the construction results.
As a Staff Accountant, you will support the financial backbone of Archer Mechanical by managing payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger activities while assisting in month-end close and reporting processes. This role sits at the center of the accounting cycle and provides broad exposure to the company’s financial operations.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and proactive, with a strong understanding of accounting fundamentals and the ability to manage multiple workflows with accuracy and discretion.
Responsibilities:
Payroll & Benefits Administration
- Process weekly payroll accurately, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Reconcile payroll provider reports to the General Ledger.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll inquiries, including paystubs, deductions, tax withholdings, garnishments, and child support reporting.
- Support benefits-related payroll deductions and reporting as needed.
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting
- Assist with the month-end close process, including preparing journal entries and maintaining accrual schedules.
- Perform monthly bank reconciliations for all corporate accounts.
- Oversee corporate credit card imports, ensuring expenses are coded correctly and receipts are attached.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances as needed.
- Support accurate and timely financial reporting.
Accounts Payable (AP) Management
- Manage the full-cycle Accounts Payable process, including vendor setup, invoice coding, approval workflows, and payment scheduling.
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve billing discrepancies.
- Serve as the primary owner of the accounting email inbox, monitoring, organizing, and routing invoices and inquiries to the appropriate departments.
- Assist with year-end 1099 preparation and reporting.
Process & Workflow Support
- Act as a key contributor in maintaining organized, efficient accounting workflows.
- Support continuous improvement of accounting processes, controls, and documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure financial accuracy and timely communication.
Qualifications:
Required
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting or currently pursuing an Accounting degree.
- 1+ years of experience in a corporate or staff accounting role.
- Strong working knowledge of accounting fundamentals.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs required).
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies in large data sets.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage deadlines, especially during month-end close.
Preferred
- Experience with ERP systems, preferably Viewpoint Vista.
- Practical payroll experience, preferably with ADP.
- Experience in construction or job-cost accounting environments. (Cost Accounting)
The Full-Cycle Accounting Role
This position manages both the “Money Out” (Payroll and Accounts Payable) and supports Final Reporting (Month-End Close and Reconciliations). As a result, the Staff Accountant serves as a central hub within the accounting function, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and financial integrity across Archer Mechanical.
