The Staff Accountant, under the direction of the Accounting Manager, supports the accuracy, integrity, and timely completion of accounting records and month-end close processes. This position prepares account analyses, accrual calculations, journal entries, payroll allocations, intercompany elimination entries, fixed asset activity, depreciation postings, property tax-related entries, balance sheet reconciliations, banking support, A/P vendor setup, and other accounting projects and analyses as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the accounting team with monthly general ledger close for Ocean Mist Farms;
- Monthly close duties include account analysis, accrual calculations, workers comp., prepaids and various journal entries including inter/co elimination entries;
- Maintain all fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions using Sage Fixed Asset software;
- Calculate depreciation, using Sage Fixed Asset software, and post to the GL system (Famous) monthly;
- Payroll journal entries and allocations
- Oversee processing of property tax payments and posting of related entries to the GL;
- Schedule and review general ledger accounts and perform Balance Sheet account reconciliations;
- Set up new A/P vendors;
- Assist with banking duties (reconciliation, positive pay, set-up wires, upload files);
- Perform other ad hoc projects and analyses as assigned;
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Associates in Accounting or Finance required; Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance desired.
- A minimum of 1-2-year progressive accounting experience is desired;
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); comparable experience in related agriculture accounting is highly desired;
- Proficient software skills are required, including Microsoft Office suite applications, (i.e., Excel) is required;
- Prior Famous experience is desired;
- Ability to research, retrieve and organize data to prepare reports and financial documentation; accurately perform complex mathematical computations;
- Organize and maintain accounting records;
- Make decisions on a variety of complex matters in accordance with established procedures;
- High level of attention to detail as well as superior organizational skills;
- A self-starter, ensure delegated tasks are completed with minimal supervisor follow up;
- Proactively communicate task and project updates to supervisor;
- Keep projects on schedule; able to work well under pressure;
- Ability to learn and absorb new duties with minimal repetition or re-training from supervisor;
- Ability to manage a project from its initiation to completion with minimal supervision.
