Senior Staff Accountant â Manufacturing

Position Summary
Symbiotic Services is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Accountant to support the accounting operations of two manufacturing facilities. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, leading month-end close activities, performing complex account reconciliations and financial analysis, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
The ideal candidate is a highly analytical accounting professional who thrives in a manufacturing environment and possesses exceptional Microsoft Excel skills. This position will work extensively with large datasets, financial modeling, reconciliations, reporting, and ad hoc analysis while partnering closely with operations, finance, and leadership teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and post complex journal entries, accruals, reclassification, and adjusting entries.
- Perform detailed balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances to ensure financial accuracy.
- Analyze financial statements and provide meaningful insights into operating performance.
- Perform detailed account analysis, including:
- General Ledger reconciliations
- Inventory reconciliations
- Fixed asset reconciliations
- Work-in-Process (WIP) analysis
- Trend and variance analysis
- Support cost accounting activities and collaborate with operations to improve financial visibility.
- Maintain fixed asset records, including:
- Capital additions
- Transfers
- Disposals
- Depreciation
- Physical inventory reconciliation
- Prepare schedules supporting external audits, tax reporting, and financial statement preparation.
- Assist in developing and improving accounting procedures, workflows, and internal controls.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to identify process improvement opportunities and enhance reporting capabilities.
- Participate in ERP implementations, upgrades, testing, and special accounting projects.
- Develop, automate, and maintain complex Excel-based financial reports and analytical models.
- Create dashboards, reporting tools, and financial analyses to support management decision-making.
- Mentor junior accounting staff as needed and serve as a resource for accounting best practices.
Qualifications
Required Education
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred.
Required Experience
- 5â8+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- Manufacturing accounting experience is strongly preferred.
- Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, IFS, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal accounting controls.
- Experience supporting audits and financial compliance activities.
Required Technical Skills
Advanced Microsoft Excel Skills (Required)
The successful candidate must demonstrate expert-level Excel proficiency, including experience with:
- Pivot Tables
- Power Query
- XLOOKUP
- INDEX/MATCH
- SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, and advanced logical formulas
- Dynamic arrays
- Data validation
- Conditional formatting
- Financial modeling
- Large dataset analysis
- Dashboard creation
- Complex reconciliation workbooks
- Data cleansing and transformation
- Automation techniques (Power Pivot and basic VBA knowledge are a plus)
Excel will be one of the primary tools used in this role, and candidates should be comfortable manipulating large volumes of financial data efficiently and accurately.
