Job Summary:
Acrisure is seeking a Sr. Payroll Associate II in Grand Rapids, MI. The Sr. Payroll Associate II supports the accurate, timely, and compliant processing of payroll operations while delivering a high-level of customer service to employees, agency partners, and internal stakeholders. This role serves as a key resource for payroll-related questions, supports payroll auditing and reporting activities, and partners with HR, Finance, and Payroll leadership to ensure operational excellence and positive employee experience.
Working within established procedures, this position contributes to payroll process improvements, system enhancements, and ongoing operational support in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Responsibilities:
Payroll Administration & Processing:
- Process payroll transactions accurately and timely across multiple payroll frequencies and entities
- Support payroll auditing, balancing, reconciliations, corrections, and reporting activities
- Process employee payroll updates including deductions, tax elections, direct deposit changes, and earnings adjustments
- Support off-cycle payments, garnishments, additional earnings, and related payroll transactions
- Assist with payroll implementations and ongoing operational payroll support activities
Customer Service & Communication:
- Respond to payroll-related questions from employees, agency partners, and internal stakeholders through ServiceNow and other communication channels
- Provide clear and professional guidance related to payroll calculations, taxes, deductions, and payroll processes
- Partner with HR, Finance, and Payroll leadership to resolve payroll questions and support timely issue resolution
- Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of employee interactions and payroll support activities
Reporting, Compliance, & Operational Support:
- Maintain accurate payroll records and support audit and reporting requests
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local payroll requirements and established payroll procedures
- Assist with year-end payroll activities including reporting and W-2 support
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Support payroll system enhancements, reporting improvements, and process documentation updates
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Excellent customer service skills with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain payroll information clearly and professionally
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines effectively
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience processing multi-state payrolls in a high-volume environment
- Experience with Workday, ADP SmartCompliance, or related payroll systems
- Familiarity with payroll auditing, reporting, and compliance activities
- Experience supporting payroll process improvement or system enhancement initiatives
Education and Experience:
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience processing payroll in multi-state and/or high-volume environment with employee populations of 2,000+
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in large, complex, or high-growth organizations
- Workday experience preferred
- Experience with ADP SmartCompliance preferred
