Basic Purpose
To support the implementation and monitoring of the Corporate Compliance Program with specific emphasis on North American Energy Reliability Corporation (NERC) compliance.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assists in developing and maintaining an effective compliance monitoring plan for NERC related policies and procedures
- Conducts compliance reviews, investigations and audits to assess compliance with NERC rules and regulations:
- NERC 693 Operational Reliability Standards
- NERC 706 Critical Infrastructure Protection Reliability Standards
- NERC Assessment Procedures (e.g., Self-Certifications, Spot Checks, etc.)
- NERC 693 Operational Reliability Standards
- Prepares assessments documenting and summarizing the audit recommendations and supporting data in an accurate, logical, concise, and independent manner.
- Participates in the development, enhancement and maintenance of the NERC Compliance procedures, processes, and general operation of the compliance program and its related activities, incorporating lessons learned and enhancements needed pursuant to compliance monitoring activities
- Assesses the development and implementation of corrective action plans for resolution of potential concerns and enhancement of compliance and ethical behavior, and as necessary, facilitates interdepartmental meetings to implement enhancements
- Day-to-day operation of NERC related systems for efficient tracking, documentation, and notification
- As necessary, provides direction to and trains less experienced Compliance Analysts.
- Remains current on new and proposed FERC related laws, regulations and advises NERC Compliance management on compliance impact
- Applies ethics and compliance perspective to related operational protocols
- Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited school and 6 years of related compliance or audit experience.
Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 10 years of related compliance or audit experience.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of:
- All legal, finance and operational areas of a regulated utility.
- Applicable regulatory associations/commissions and their related policies, orders and reporting requirements.
Skills such as:
- Analytical, time-management, organizational, interpersonal and communication (written and verbal)
- Conducting internal reviews, investigations, ethical decision-making and handle a high level of confidentiality.
Equipment and Applications
PCs, Microsoft Office Applications, spreadsheet and database software.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
General office environment. No special physical demands required. Some travel required.
