Position Description:
The Head of Tax owns the full tax function for American Tire Distributors, the largest tire distributor in North America. The role sets and executes tax strategy across federal, international, and state and local jurisdictions and serves as the single point of accountability for compliance, reporting, planning, and audit defense. The Head of Tax directs both an internal tax professional and the outsourced tax service provider, manages vendor service levels, and advises senior leadership on the tax implications of operational and strategic decisions. Reporting to the VP, Finance, the role operates as the senior tax leader for the enterprise, positioned directly below the Vice President level.Key Responsibilities
- Own the enterprise tax function, serving as the primary point of accountability for all tax matters across the organization.
- Develop and execute tax strategies aligned with business objectives, growth initiatives, and risk tolerance.
- Advise executive leadership on tax implications, risks, and opportunities related to operational and strategic decisions.
- Oversee federal, international, state, and local tax compliance, ensuring accurate and timely filings across all jurisdictions.
- Lead the income tax provision process under ASC 740, including effective tax rate management, valuation allowances, and tax accounting matters.
- Ensure tax controls, policies, procedures, disclosures, and reporting comply with regulatory requirements and company standards.
- Manage tax audits and examinations, serving as the primary liaison with federal, state, provincial, and local tax authorities.
- Oversee transfer pricing, indirect tax, sales and use tax, and property tax compliance and planning activities.
- Lead tax planning and support strategic transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and legal entity structuring.
- Manage outsourced tax service providers, establishing priorities, reviewing deliverables, and ensuring service quality and timeliness.
- Lead and develop internal tax resources while coordinating internal and external support to meet business and compliance requirements.
- Maintain and enhance tax systems, technology, controls, and processes to improve efficiency, data integrity, and governance.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree 9 years of related experience including significant management experience preferred
