We’re looking for a Senior Vice President, Director of Tax

Reporting to the Group Chief Accounting Officer, the SVP, Director of Tax role is a senior finance leader responsible for setting the tax strategy and managing the tax function for Hamilton’s operating platforms. This role will provide oversight of global tax compliance, income tax accounting, transfer pricing, and tax risk management across Hamilton Group including its subsidiaries in Bermuda, the U.K., U.S. and Ireland. This role will serve as a strategic advisor to business partners across all of Hamilton Group’s operating platforms. This position can be based in the US or Bermuda.

What you will do

•  Provide oversight of federal, state, local and international tax compliance across Hamilton’s global entities within Bermuda, U.K., Ireland, and the U.S.
• Own the quarterly and annual income tax provision process, including oversight of ASC 740 accounting, effective tax rate analysis, maintenance of deferred tax inventory (including valuation allowances if necessary), and uncertain tax positions and related 10-Q/10-K disclosures.
• Provide statutory tax support for U.S. insurance company(s) (SSAP 101).
• Oversee the maintenance of intercompany transaction inventory including identification and preparation of transfer pricing documentation (with support from a third-party provider) to maintain compliance with each jurisdiction’s regulatory requirements.
• Manage direct relationships with tax authorities, external auditors and advisors.
• Own the tax function’s compliance with its SOX controls and maintenance of SOX narratives and related controls in line with business changes.
• Provide annual tax training to all employees on Hamilton’s Tax Guidelines to provide clear instruction as to what business activities may be done while traveling outside of the employee’s home country.
• Provide support to the business units on Federal Excise Tax and related filings.
• Preparation and filing of the annual Country by Country report.
• Preparation of the Company’s annual Master file
• Calculate and make estimated / annual or FET tax payments as necessary
• Stay up to date on changes in tax laws in all jurisdictions and advise leadership on impact(s) to Hamilton Group.
• Review of the Bermuda Substance Based Credit and preparation of the applicable return.
• Ad-Hoc requests as required

 What you require for the role

• 10+ years of progressive tax roles within a multinational (re)insurance group
• Familiarity with cross-border insurance transactions (Quota Shares, Intercompany Services, etc.) and related transfer pricing requirements
• Strong knowledge of ASC 740 and familiarity with insurance-related tax considerations
• Knowledge of SSAP 101
• Strong organization skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, or a related field required
• CPA, Master of Taxation or other advanced credential preferred.
