Senior Tax Preparer

Position Overview:

The Senior Tax Preparer at Avery Partners' client is responsible for preparing and reviewing complex tax returns for businesses and individuals while supporting the delivery of high-quality tax and advisory services to clients. This role requires strong technical tax knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple engagements efficiently in a fast-paced public accounting environment.

The ideal candidate has significant experience preparing complex business and individual tax returns, understands a wide range of tax situations and entity structures, and is comfortable communicating directly with clients regarding tax matters and required documentation. This individual will also support the development of less experienced staff by providing guidance, sharing technical knowledge, and assisting with day-to-day workflow coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare complex business, individual, fiduciary, and pass-through entity tax returns accurately and efficiently

- Review client financial information, accounting records, and supporting documentation to ensure completeness and compliance

- Identify tax issues, discrepancies, and planning opportunities while communicating findings to leadership and clients

- Assist with tax planning projects and research federal, state, and local tax matters

- Communicate directly with clients to request information, answer questions, and provide updates on tax engagements

- Manage multiple tax engagements and deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and organization

- Review work prepared by less experienced staff and provide guidance and technical support as needed

- Stay current on tax law changes, compliance requirements, and industry developments

- Assist in improving internal processes, workflow efficiency, and overall client service delivery

- Support a collaborative team environment focused on continuous learning and professional development

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

- CPA license preferred

- 5+ years of tax experience in a public accounting or CPA firm environment

- Extensive experience preparing complex business and individual tax returns

- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations

- Experience working with pass-through entities, partnerships, S corporations, and multi-entity structures preferred

- Experience reviewing tax workpapers and supporting documentation

- Ability to manage multiple engagements and deadlines independently
